A+ Psychiatry (ADHD+)
I am very proud to introduce my new "baby", A+ Psychiatry. This has been a pipe dream of mine for years, even before I went to medical school. About a year ago I decided to go all in and make it happen. Right now I'm focused on growing my new practice. However my long term goal is to create a world class center that offers state of the art diagnosis, medication, therapy, academic and occupational support. Though one step at a time!
For better or for worse, much of my inspiration comes from my personal experience and listening to the experiences of other ADHDers when trying to access care. The problem is that it takes A LOT of organization and follow through to get proper treatment for ADHD, which is incredibly ironic when you think about it. So, I wanted to make A+ Psychiatry to be a role model of what an ADHD-friendly practice can be. Here are just a few examples:
Clean, easy to navigate website using bold, high contrast colors.
Encouraging the use of texting and emails for quicker responses.
Streamlined onboarding / enrollment process which can be done online from a phone or computer. No need to print out forms. Only essential information is collected.
I am very open about my experience with ADHD and share my experience when I think it is pertinent and therapeutic to do so.
Utilizing a direct specialty care model rather than fee-for-service. My patients pay a membership rate instead of a per-visit rate. The flat rate includes as many visits and check-ins as needed. This is a REALLY big deal. It encourages us to explore comorbidities such as anxiety, and there is no pressure to cram everything into one visit. If there's too many things going on, or patients forget something important, it's no big deal to schedule a follow-up a week later to discuss.
Thoughtful prescribing of stimulants. I have no hesitation prescribing meds when they are clinically indicated and there are no major contraindications, and we follow the standard of care.
Patient education about ADHD, treatment options including tips and tricks.
Encouraging self acceptance and realistic goal setting.
Networking with other ADHD-friendly therapists / providers / specialists.
Lastly, I want to say THANK YOU to this community for the inspiration!
Have an A+ Day!
